Assemble set series To make the bombard or cannon more effective, Leonardo da Vinci designed projectiles that contained a quantity of mini gunpowder shots packed into petal-shaped iron pieces that formed a ball. After assembly, the cannonball was loaded into the barrel of the bombard and fired. The device exploded into fragments that had greater range and impact than a single cannonball.
